France will participate in talks between Russia and Ukraine scheduled for 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi, under US mediation, Jean-Noël Barrot announced. Paris wants to make the European position heard there, after several rounds without European representatives, according to the French foreign minister.

France will participate in talks between Russia and Ukraine scheduled for 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi under US mediation, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Sunday 8 November on RTL. Paris intends to make Europe’s voice heard there, without yet having appointed its representative, reports La Nouvelle Tribune.

The discussions are to focus on de-escalation and security guarantees. Previous rounds held in Abu Dhabi in late January and early February brought together Russia, Ukraine and the United States without the Europeans, according to La Nouvelle Tribune. The Kremlin confirmed on Tuesday that the new meeting would take place.

Jean-Noël Barrot said the Europeans had asked the US mediators that no discussion on the future of the continent should ignore their demands. He also said he did not know the details of the “very large agreement” mentioned by US President Donald Trump, while considering that no discussion on the European security architecture could be held without the Europeans, reports La Nouvelle Tribune.

The talks are to take place as strikes continue in Ukraine. According to AFP, cited by La Nouvelle Tribune, a bombardment notably killed 26 people in a centre.
