Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure have injured at least nine people, including a child, and left five regions without electricity, according to Ukraine’s Energy Ministry. Volodymyr Zelensky says 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones were used in the attack, ahead of the trilateral meeting on 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi.
Russian strikes carried out overnight from Friday to Saturday left consumers without electricity in five Ukrainian regions, according to Ukraine’s Energy Ministry. The regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv were affected, while energy facilities in the capital region sustained major damage.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had used 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones in the attack, which hit around ten regions and injured at least nine people, including a child. The strikes also damaged the Northern Bridge in Kyiv, according to the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
Damage to energy infrastructure is disrupting Kyiv’s supply and affecting heating and water systems in particular, Vitali Klitschko said. Repair work is being slowed by air-raid alerts, according to Ukraine’s Energy Ministry.
The strikes come ahead of a trilateral meeting scheduled for 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi between envoys from Kyiv, Washington and Moscow, aimed at trying to revive negotiations. Volodymyr Zelensky called on the United States to increase its support for Ukraine.
