Volodymyr Zelensky says the Russian army used KN-23 ballistic missiles made and supplied by North Korea in strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Technical assessments are under way at the sites hit, according to the Ukrainian president cited by L’essentiel.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian army had used ballistic missiles made in North Korea during the massive strikes carried out overnight from Friday 6 to Saturday 7 November against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. “Technical assessments are under way at sites hit by ballistic missiles. According to preliminary information, at one of the key energy facilities that suffered damage, the Russians used KN-23 missiles made and supplied by North Korea,” the head of state said in a message posted on his X account.
The KN-23 is a short-range ballistic missile developed by Pyongyang, which Western experts had already identified in the arsenal used by Moscow in Ukraine. The previous day, Volodymyr Zelensky had said he had “intelligence” about a new Russian strike being prepared against the energy sector, bridges over the Dnieper and civilian infrastructure, assuring that “Russia will receive our response”.
The accusations come six days before a meeting between Ukraine, the United States and Russia scheduled for next week in Abu Dhabi. US President Donald Trump, for his part, predicted on Thursday a coming “very big” agreement with Russia on Ukraine that “could encompass all of Europe”, after meeting at the White House with Kirill Dmitriev, Vladimir Putin’s envoy.
Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement follows a week of intense strikes on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv and several regions of the country, which cut electricity and caused injuries on 7 November.
