Iranian army says it can respond immediately without geographical limitShahram Sharifi · GFDL 1.2

Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia says the armed forces are on higher alert and more powerful than at the start of the war in the Middle East. He promises an immediate response without geographical limit on the Supreme Leader's orders, according to official Irna.

Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Saturday that the armed forces had been ordered by the Supreme Leader to respond to any attack in an “immediate, effective and without geographical limit” manner, according to official Irna. He also said the army was on a higher state of alert than at the beginning of the war in the Middle East.

Two explosions were reported overnight from Friday to Saturday on Iran's Qeshm Island, in the Strait of Hormuz, while the Tasnim agency reported that two missiles had struck the island. The Iranian army subsequently said, without independent confirmation, that it had destroyed a US military drone in the area, according to Iranian media.

Mohammad Akraminia also said Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz only if the United States accepted several conditions, including a ceasefire on all regional fronts, the unfreezing of Iranian assets held abroad, the lifting of sanctions targeting the oil sector and an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. Washington has so far rejected these conditions, according to Iranian media.

The statement comes after threats made by Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on 4 November in the event of US strikes and the withdrawal of US personnel from the Middle East announced on 6 November. Khamenei's threats to widen the war had preceded the withdrawal of US personnel from the Middle East.
