US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday asked China to "fully and immediately" implement the commitments made in the Busan trade agreement, during a telephone call with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. US Trade Representative Jameison Greer took part in the exchange, according to the Treasury Department.
Bessent raised "concerns" about recent Chinese actions and warned that future progress would depend on "concrete results". He said Washington would closely assess Beijing's implementation of the Busan agreement. Both sides reaffirmed the value of maintaining "direct and candid" communication.
The Treasury Department linked the call to the Trump administration's determination to pursue trade and economic policies favourable to American workers, farmers and businesses, as well as to US economic and national security. The exact content of the commitments made in Busan is not detailed in the Treasury's statement.
