British Prime Minister Andy Burnham says Vladimir Putin will not be invited to the G20 summit scheduled for November 2027 in Manchester, UK. The decision would break with the practice of inviting all group members, according to The Economist, cited by Reuters.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Russian President Vladimir Putin would not be invited to the G20 summit scheduled for November 2027 in Manchester, UK. “No,” Burnham replied when asked by The Economist, according to Reuters.

Russia remains a member of the G20 despite Western efforts to isolate it after its invasion of Ukraine. Leaders of the host country traditionally invite all group members to attend the annual summit. Andy Burnham’s office, the former mayor of the Greater Manchester region, did not immediately comment on his remarks, Reuters reports.

The British decision contrasts with Washington’s invitation to Vladimir Putin for a G20 meeting in Miami in December, announced in September by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The meeting is intended to give the Russian president an opportunity to talk with Donald Trump and other leaders, according to Rubio.
