Eswatini’s U15s beat the Maldives 3-0 before losing 2-1 to Palestine in an eight-a-side development tournament. The team continues in the lower bracket, with a classification semi-final against Gambia scheduled, reports the Times of Eswatini.

Eswatini’s under-15 team beat the Maldives 3-0 before losing 2-1 to Palestine on Wednesday 28 October in the U15 tournament held in Baku, the Times of Eswatini reports. Samkelo Tsabedze opened the scoring after three minutes against the Maldives, Mnotfo Simelane doubled the lead in the seventh minute and Junior Shabangu scored the third goal late in the match.

The defeat by Palestine sent Eswatini into the lower bracket of the classification matches in Tier E. The tournament, organised in an eight-a-side development format, does not provide for early elimination: defeated teams continue playing matches to determine their final ranking, according to the Times of Eswatini.

Eswatini were due to face Gambia on Thursday 29 October at 10.45am local time in the lower-bracket semi-final. The match was to help determine the team’s position in the 145th-to-160th range, before the festival concludes on 1 November at the Hovsan complex and Baku Crystal Hall.
