Eswatini’s courts have sentenced Vusi Charles Mncina to 124 years in prison for murdering four women and attempting to murder a fifth. The victims were shot in Goje Township, Ezulwini, on 28 October 2023, according to Judge Titus Mlangeni, quoted by the Times of Eswatini.
Former deputy sheriff Vusi Charles Mncina, a judicial auxiliary in Eswatini, has been sentenced to 124 years in prison for killing four women and attempting to murder a fifth. Judge Titus Mlangeni handed down the sentence on Wednesday, after the shooting on 28 October 2023 in Goje Township, Ezulwini, the Times of Eswatini reports.
The magistrate said Mncina had spared two men present at the party before shooting the five unarmed women, who pleaded for their lives. He stressed the need to strengthen general deterrence against violent crimes, saying the victims’ families and society had been permanently scarred.
Mncina was a first-time offender, but the judge considered that this circumstance could hardly work in his favour since he had committed five serious offences during the same incident. Titus Mlangeni also said he had avoided imposing a sentence dictated by anger, recalling that justice had to take account of the crime, the perpetrator and the interests of society, according to the Times of Eswatini.
