King Mswati III has announced that funding to build a 50,000-seat stadium will be included in Eswatini’s next national budget. The project exceeds the 40,000-seat capacity initially discussed and is intended, among other purposes, to host international matches, the Times of Eswatini reports.

King Mswati III has announced that Eswatini’s next national budget is expected to include funding to build a 50,000-seat stadium. Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg is to include the allocation in the budget, the king said on Wednesday evening at the Ezulwini Palazzo ICC, according to the Times of Eswatini.

The project exceeds the 40,000-seat capacity initially requested by the king during the 2025–2026 Ingwenyama Cup final at Somhlolo National Stadium. Mswati III had said the venue could no longer accommodate crowds at major matches and called for a stadium that meets international standards for the national teams.

The king said designers had already been engaged. Funding could combine the state budget, development partners and private investors, according to the Times of Eswatini.
