The Lavumisa Town Council in southern Eswatini is planning a 354-hectare industrial park to host manufacturing, processing and light industrial services. Its chief executive, Thokozani Jabulani Seyama, presented the project as a potential driver of employment and livelihoods for residents in an interview with the Times of Eswatini.
The development is to take place in phases. Seyama compares the project with the industrial zones in Matsapha and says textile manufacturing activities could be hosted there. Consultations with Lavumisa residents have been under way for about a year and a half, and the park was discussed at recent meetings with stakeholders.
The town council is also working to regularise informal settlements under its jurisdiction. Seyama stressed that environmental considerations will be central to the park’s implementation, given the possible effects of industrial activities.
