The Senegalese Rural Electrification Agency estimates that more than 400 billion CFA francs is needed to connect 6,400 localities, in addition to the 6,000 already covered by work. Director general Pape Momar Ngom is aiming for universal access to electricity in 2029, according to Le Soleil.
Senegal must mobilise more than 400 billion CFA francs to electrify 6,400 localities that are still unconnected, in addition to 6,000 localities where work is already under way, said Pape Momar Ngom, director general of the Senegalese Rural Electrification Agency (Aser). The state aims to achieve universal access to electricity by 2029, according to the Senegalese daily Le Soleil.
Work will begin after the contracts and financing agreements have been signed. Pape Momar Ngom also reported financing pledges from private partners, without specifying the amount, according to Le Soleil.
During his tour of the Louga region, the Aser director general visited Darou Cissé, Thiss Wolof and Thiss Peul, which were recently connected to the grid. He is to assess residents’ satisfaction and gather their needs for possible additional interventions with the Moroccan-Senegalese Electricity Company (Comasel), according to Le Soleil.
The announcement comes after the presentation of the Power Compact to modernise electricity in Senegal, published on 23 October. The new financing being sought by Aser concerns extending connections to 6,400 localities that remain without electricity.
