Eswatini’s Minister of Public Service, Mabulala Maseko, is urging voters to register in their home chiefdoms so they can choose representatives who understand their community’s needs. He spoke in Mbabane during a registration drive by the electoral commission ahead of the 2028 national elections, the Times of Eswatini reports.
Eswatini’s Minister of Public Service, Mabulala Maseko, has urged citizens to register to vote in their home chiefdoms so that communities can elect representatives who understand their needs. He spoke on Wednesday at his ministry’s offices in Mbabane, according to the Times of Eswatini.
Maseko, who is also the MP for Maphalaleni, warned against registering in constituencies to which voters do not belong. In his view, this practice could lead to inadequate representation in Parliament and insufficient public services, including poorly maintained roads and unsuitable health infrastructure.
The appeal was made during a voter registration drive organised by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), which enabled nearly 50 ministry employees to register. The initiative is part of a national campaign ahead of the 2028 elections. Maseko praised registration services being brought closer to public servants and communities, and urged citizens to take part in the poll to contribute to the country’s development.
The campaign comes as the 2028 national elections are already at the centre of political debate in Eswatini. MPs have expressed concern about being re-elected in the poll, while the country has banned early election campaigning, according to articles published on these issues.
