South Africa’s Parliament is seeking an urgent report on the financial situation and cash position of South African Airways after salary delays for the second consecutive month. The document must notably clarify the use of about 1.1 billion rand from the sale of a Heathrow slot, according to TimesLIVE.
The standing committee on appropriations of the South African Parliament has asked Transport Minister Barbara Creecy for an urgent report on the financial situation and cash position of South African Airways (SAA), according to the Sunday Times. The document should cover the accounts for the 2025-2026 financial year and any need for public support.
The committee’s chair, Mmusi Maimane, is also seeking explanations about the use of the approximately 1.1 billion rand raised from the sale of SAA’s landing slot at London’s Heathrow Airport, as well as an update on allegations concerning executive appointments and the reliability of the airline’s financial data.
The request comes after the announcement of salary delays for the second consecutive month. Ground staff and cabin crew are due to be paid on 27 October, pilots on 28 October, managers and specialists on 30 October, and executives on 31 October. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana also revealed that the airline had been granted a one-billion-rand state guarantee, the Sunday Times reports.
