South Africa’s electoral commission confirms that all material objections linked to the 2026 local elections in Western Cape province have been resolved, after a recount at one polling station. Provincial results have now been fully captured and audited, according to provincial electoral officer Michael Hendrickse.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) announced that all material objections linked to the 2026 local elections in Western Cape province had been resolved, reports SABC News. Its provincial electoral officer, Michael Hendrickse, said that 100% of the province’s results had been captured and audited and that the objections had been examined in accordance with Section 65 of the Municipal Electoral Act.
A recount was notably conducted in an electoral ward in the Breede Valley Municipality following an objection, according to Michael Hendrickse. In Cape Town, where 68% of wards had been declared, the CSIR predicts that the DA will retain its majority on the 235-seat council, with at least 116 seats and a projected total of 139, compared with 135 in 2021, reports SABC News.
