Algerians living abroad have been able since 1 January 2026 to clear a car less than five years old without duties or taxes when returning permanently to Algeria, rather than only a new vehicle, according to Algerian Customs. The measure stems from the 2026 Finance Law.
The exemption is granted under the Certificate of Change of Residence (CCR), the customs scheme governing the permanent return of expatriates. It excludes diesel vehicles and limits engine capacity to 1,800 cm³. The deferment concerning certain new diesel vehicles ended on 30 June 2026.
