About 50 tanker trucks carrying 1,600 tonnes of petrol from the Sbaa refinery in Algeria arrived in Agadez on Sunday to supply the Nigerien market, according to Algérie Eco and Le Quotidien d’Oran, citing the APS. Nigerien Oil Minister Hamadou Tini presented the delivery as a response to tensions over petrol and diesel, while the Algerian ambassador said it had been urgently ordered by Abdelmadjid Tebboune without a prior request from Niger.
The welcoming ceremony was held at Agadez’s regional fuel depot in the presence of the region’s governor, Major General Boulama Issa Ibra, the director-general of the Nigerien Petroleum Products Company (Sonidep) and local administrative officials, Le Quotidien d’Oran reports, citing the APS.
Minister Hamadou Tini also presented the operation as a sign of the close ties between Algeria and Niger. Algerian ambassador Saadi Ahmed noted that it coincided with the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Algerian Revolution, according to Le Quotidien d’Oran. He praised Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani for his commitment to the bilateral partnership.
