Niger’s Petroleum Minister Hamadou Tini and his Trade counterpart Abdoulaye Seydou demanded the immediate release of fuel stored by Sonidep. The intervention on 21 October 2026 follows major disruptions in fuel distribution, the Journal du Niger reports.

Niger’s Minister of Petroleum, Hamadou Tini, and his counterpart for Trade, Abdoulaye Seydou, demanded the immediate release of fuel held at Sonidep’s depot in Sorey. The two ministers visited the site on Wednesday 21 October 2026 and challenged managing director Oumar Fatimata Marafa and the operational teams, the Journal du Niger reports.

The depot has sufficient stocks and receives tanker trucks continuously, while Sonidep distributes nearly 1.15 million litres a day across the network. The ministers therefore blamed supply difficulties on malfunctions in the logistics chain, which are paralysing service stations.

The visit comes two days after the emergency restriction on fuel sales came into force, announced on 19 October.
