The World Bank is negotiating with Algeria on financing of more than $10 million for certain Algerian startups, according to Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Startups Noureddine Ouadah, cited by Al Sharq Bloomberg. The minister said in Algiers on Saturday 7 November 2026 that the discussions were at an advanced stage and that the World Bank had expressed interest in startups experiencing rapid growth in Algeria and with prospects for expansion in Africa and Europe.
Algeria will host the fifth African Startup Conference from 5 to 7 December 2026, which is expected to bring together more than 25,000 participants and 40 official delegations led by African ministers, according to Noureddine Ouadah. The meeting will focus in particular on cutting-edge technologies in energy, health, artificial intelligence, agriculture and food, as well as digital sovereignty and startup financing.
Noureddine Ouadah also said that the conclusions of the fourth edition of the conference had been approved on Friday at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa. He said that the results of previous editions, notably those of the ministerial summit held on the sidelines of the conference, had resulted in official African Union resolutions.
According to the minister, the United Nations Development Programme estimates that deep-tech financing in Africa reached $1.2 billion in 2023. The figure was $86 million ten years earlier, according to data cited by Ouadah.
