Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested two armed men after a chase ended when their vehicle hit an electricity pole in Kisumu on 28 October. Investigators recovered a pistol and three phones, according to police, who suspect the vehicle was involved in several robberies.
Two armed suspects were arrested on Wednesday 28 October in Kisumu, Kenya, after a chase ended with their black Toyota Prado crashing, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Detectives suspected the vehicle was linked to several robberies and pursued it after its driver refused to stop.
Police shot at the vehicle’s tyres near Oile Park. The Prado lost control and hit an electricity pole. The suspects were arrested as they tried to flee the wreckage, Kenyans.co.ke reports.
The chase began after a woman reported that she and her friends had lost phones stolen by people travelling in a black Prado, according to the DCI. Investigators recovered a pistol and three phones, which were sealed as evidence. Police are also investigating possible links between the suspects and a robbery network that may extend beyond Kisumu County.
The two men were held at Kisumu Central Police Station pending their appearance in court, according to the DCI. The arrests follow those of three robbery suspects in Nakuru on 21 September, after another chase.
