Kenyan police officer Raphael Ojiambo was shot dead during training at the Wikithuki Border Patrol Unit camp in Kitui County on Sunday 25 October, Tuko reports. Police officer Hussein Yussuf Ali, suspected of firing the shot, was arrested the following day after instructors found him in thorny scrub about three kilometres from the camp.

Ojiambo was hit in the chest at around 3pm and pronounced dead. His body was transferred to the Chiromo Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy. The two recently graduated officers were undergoing induction training in Tseikuru.

Investigators recovered two G3 rifles associated with the two officers, as well as telephones. No ammunition casing was found at the scene. The forensic analysis of three telephones is expected to contribute to the investigation, which has not yet established the motive or the full sequence of events.

The killing comes as a Kenyan officer was killed and two others injured in an attack in Mombasa on 26 October, according to an earlier report published by us on the attack on officers in Mombasa.
