Tanzanian opposition figure Twaha Salim Mwaipaya, a youth organiser for the Chadema party, remained missing on 26 October, more than 24 hours after his alleged abduction in Kamulu, Machakos County, Kenya. The Pan-African Solidarity Network called on the Kenyan authorities to locate him and prevent his transfer across the border, Tuko reports.
The Pan-African Solidarity Network PASNET is calling on the Kenyan authorities to find Twaha Salim Mwaipaya, a youth organiser for the Tanzanian opposition party Chadema, who went missing after his alleged abduction in Kamulu, Machakos County. The network made the appeal at a press conference in Nairobi on Monday 26 October, Tuko reports.
Witnesses say three vehicles, including a Toyota Land Cruiser, intercepted Mwaipaya while he was travelling in a taxi. Human rights defender Alex Mukasa called on Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations and National Intelligence Service to mobilise their resources to locate him.
Mukasa also asked the authorities to investigate reports that a Tanzanian vehicle had been sent to the Tarakea border post to collect Mwaipaya. He warned that a transfer to Tanzania could put the opposition figure in danger, according to Tuko.
His disappearance was reported on 25 October, following his alleged abduction in Kamulu. PASNET’s latest appeal comes a day after reports of the alleged abduction of a Tanzanian opposition figure near Nairobi, and follows the report of Twaha Mwaipaya’s disappearance in Kenya.
