Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri is attending the third Russia-Africa summit and the Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Moscow, which opened on Wednesday. She arrived the previous day with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti and is due to take part in plenary sessions and several bilateral meetings, reports La Presse.
The summit, chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin, brings together 48 of the continent’s 54 African countries. Twenty-two leaders and heads of state or government from more than 38 countries are present, compared with 17 at the summit in St Petersburg in 2023. Putin is co-chairing the leaders’ plenary session with Évariste Ndayishimiye, Burundi’s president and the serving chairperson of the African Union.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Economic and Humanitarian Forum includes more than 40 business events focused on joint projects. Around 4,000 Russian and African entrepreneurs have been invited. Discussions cover trade, investment, health, infrastructure, energy, technology and education.
The agenda announced by the Russian administration provides for Putin to hold meetings with several African leaders until 30 October. The summit is also due to consider cooperation agreements between Russia and African countries.
