Russian President Vladimir Putin said on 27 October in Moscow that Europe was paying the price for cutting ties with Russian energy supplies, according to Senenews. He argued that abandoning long-term gas contracts was harming European industry and the social sector and driving up costs for consumers.
At the summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Putin acknowledged that Russian gas companies had faced difficulties in recent years because of restrictions imposed by some countries. However, he defended Russia’s place in the global gas market. Europe has reduced its dependence on Russian gas amid the war in Ukraine.
The GECF, which brings together 12 gas-exporting countries, is holding its eighth summit in Moscow from 27 October. Senegal is also entering the gas market, Senenews reports.
