Qatar has proposed a draft peace deal to Iran with a seven-day timetable to address the concerns of Tehran and Washington, according to an official briefed on the negotiations cited by Reuters. The text sets out daily confidence-building measures that both sides would have to implement.
The timetable could begin early next week, and several countries would act as guarantors of the deal, the official added. Qatar and Pakistan are leading mediation efforts to end the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in February, a conflict that has disrupted maritime traffic and oil supplies.
A previous mediation effort resulted in an interim peace deal in June, but it quickly collapsed. The talks are taking place as Donald Trump again threatened on Friday to strike Iran, while Iranian officials prepared plans to attack undersea cables in the Gulf if strikes resumed, according to Reuters.
