Kevin T., the suspect in the Trappes killings, expressed support for Marine Le Pen and the National Rally in private exchanges dating from 2022 and 2023, according to an investigation published by Mediapart on Tuesday 27 October. The outlet says it authenticated two Facebook Messenger conversations with former friends of the suspect, in which he also made hostile remarks about immigrants, Muslims and the left.
On 9 March 2022, a few weeks before the French presidential election, Kevin T. wrote that he could no longer stand being “overrun”. In 2023, he told one person that Marine Le Pen was his friend and that the National Rally was not his enemy. A former friend told Mediapart that he believed there were too many immigrants in France and that they came to take advantage of benefits.
In a message from May 2023, he claimed that France had 10 million Muslims, almost all of whom he associated with Islamism. He also described some public radio stations as “Islamo-leftist” and mocked demonstrations against the far right.
Kevin T. also played down the threat from the far right when a friend mentioned foiled attacks, and presented the far left as the main danger to democracy. The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the Trappes killings, in Yvelines, France, in which the suspect is accused of targeting Black and Arab people. The investigation into the suspect’s racist motive had already been covered by the media on 24 and 25 October.
