Families pay tribute to 7 October victims in Tel Aviv

Families of victims of the Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023 observed a minute’s silence in Tel Aviv on Tuesday before singing in tribute to their loved ones. The ceremony took place on the day of Israel’s 27 October legislative elections, the first since the attacks, according to Africanews.

Families bereaved by the Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023 gathered in Tel Aviv on Tuesday 27 October to pay tribute to their relatives who were killed, according to Africanews. Participants observed a minute’s silence before singing near an installation bearing the date “7.10.23”.

Yona Adam, whose daughter Mapal was killed at the Nova music festival, and Einav Zangauker, mother of former hostage Matan Zangauker, were among those present. The commemoration took place on the day of Israel’s legislative elections, the first since the attacks, to elect the 26th Knesset. Exit polls were expected at 9pm Central European Time, but forming a new government could take several weeks.

The vote also saw scenes of voting in Kiryat Arba, near Hebron in the occupied West Bank, in Umm al-Fahm, a predominantly Arab city in northern Israel, and in Jerusalem. Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, voted in Kiryat Arba, a stronghold of the nationalist right.

The commemoration came the day after the start of the Israeli legislative elections, in which voters choose the members of the Knesset.
