Syria suspends traffic at Nassib crossing with Jordan

Syrian authorities have closed the Nassib border crossing with Jordan, stopping passenger travel and trade in both directions. Damascus linked the move to Jordanian military operations in Deraa and said it was in contact with Amman to clarify their reasons, according to Reuters and Syrian authorities.
Syria suspended passenger and goods traffic in both directions at the Nassib border crossing with Jordan on Tuesday. The Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs said the closure was due to the “current conditions and developments on the ground” in Deraa Governorate.
The decision followed air strikes by the Jordanian air force on sites described as hideouts of armed groups in southern Syria, Reuters reported. Suspects linked to the deadly attack on a church in Jordan’s Karak Governorate on 23 October are said to have ties to “terrorist organisations” operating in the region.
Syrian authorities conveyed to Amman their objections to military operations carried out on Syrian territory without prior coordination. Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it remained in contact with Jordan to establish the reasons for the strikes and clarify the circumstances. The closure follows the Jordanian strikes in Syria, reported on 27 October.
