A drone strike killed two civilians and wounded several others on 24 October in the Emi Lulu area, in the Agadez region, according to the Nigerien government. Niamey accused Chad of carrying out the attack from its territory with French support, according to an official statement.
Nigerien authorities said the strike, which occurred at about 1am, also damaged vehicles. They said they were relying on material and technical evidence gathered by the defence and security forces and the judicial authorities. The government announced that it would submit this evidence to international bodies.
In response, Niamey plans to summon Chad’s ambassador and refer the matter to the United Nations Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council. It is also calling for an independent international investigation and increased monitoring of airspace and border areas. The government is demanding an end to hostile actions and compensation for the harm caused, while holding Chad responsible for the alleged acts.
The announcement comes after Niger accused Chad of a drone strike on 26 October. The Nigerien government then condemned the attack that took place on 24 October in the Agadez region.
