Three PDP officials join APC in Gombe

Three local presidents of the Peoples Democratic Party left their party to join the All Progressives Congress in Gombe, along with an ally of Isa Ali Pantami. The defections could weaken the opposition party’s local mobilisation in three local government areas, according to the All Progressives Congress candidate’s camp.

Four local officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have left their party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, Nigeria. They include Adamu Alhaji Abdu, PDP chairman in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, Idris Abubakar Yayari in Kwami and Yusuf Isa Jigawa in Nafada, as well as Babangida Usman, head of the contact committee of PDP governorship candidate Isa Ali Pantami’s campaign, reports Tribune Online.

The four officials announced their resignations from the PDP in letters addressed to the chairmen of their constituencies before joining the APC. The camp of Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, the APC governorship candidate, said the defections involved officials responsible for voter mobilisation, polling-station coordination and campaign logistics in three local government areas.

The defections come as Isa Ali Pantami and former governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo are due to travel to Gombe State following Pantami’s reinstatement on the list of candidates of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Their visit is also expected to include the inauguration of the PDP campaign council, according to Tribune Online.
