Seven people have died and 11 others have been injured in a collision involving eight vehicles in Kumo, in Nigeria’s Gombe State. The Federal Road Safety Corps attributes the accident to a lorry’s brake failure, according to its intervention report.
Seven people were killed and 11 others injured at around 5.30pm on Thursday in a collision involving eight vehicles at Tashan Magariya Junction, near Kumo, in Gombe State, Nigeria, Punch reports, citing a report by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian agency responsible for road safety. The accident involved a DAF articulated lorry, two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorbikes on the road linking Gombe to Billiri.
The FRSC attributed the accident to brake failure, which allegedly caused the lorry driver to lose control as he travelled from Gombe towards Yola. The seven dead were four adult men, two boys and a girl, while the 11 injured comprised four men, three women and four girls, with injuries including open fractures, lacerations and bruising.
FRSC rescuers arrived two minutes after receiving the emergency call at 5.32pm. The victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Kumo, where the 11 injured received first aid. The vehicles were handed over to the police traffic division in Kumo, according to the FRSC.
