Senegalese Infrastructure Minister Déthié Fall says ongoing public projects will continue and announces a programme of 100 health centres and 2,500 classrooms funded with 62 billion CFA francs. He plans three phases for the centres and acknowledges that the rainy season and material supplies are slowing some road projects, according to Seneweb.

Senegalese Infrastructure Minister Déthié Fall has announced a programme to build 100 health centres and 2,500 classrooms, despite budget constraints and delays on some construction sites, Seneweb reports. The education component is worth 62 billion CFA francs and also includes 300 mini-boreholes as well as several hundred hygiene blocks and sanitation facilities.

The health programme will be rolled out in three phases: 35 centres and three hospitals in the first, 35 centres and two hospitals in the second, then 30 centres in the third. Déthié Fall also said his ministry is working with the Ministry of Higher Education to speed up the delivery of university infrastructure.

In southern Senegal, road and urban roadworks are continuing in Ziguinchor despite delays. The minister attributed them in particular to the rainy season and difficulties obtaining quarry materials. He also mentioned discussions with the Ministry of Finance to reactivate or consolidate projects, including a 2 billion CFA franc programme for crafts, as well as construction projects in Bignona and Marsassoum.

The announcements come amid constraints on public finances, after Senegal deferred 295 billion CFA francs in spending due to a lack of revenue. On 25 October, the prime minister also defended the 2026 supplementary budget.
