Self-proclaimed General Lassy Mbouity, leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Congo, threatens to seize several strategic positions after his alleged abduction and an assassination attempt. His party accuses Denis Sassou-N’Guesso’s government and calls for continued mobilisation, according to Taarifa.
Self-proclaimed General Lassy Mbouity, leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Congo (FARC), has threatened to seize several strategic cities in Congo-Brazzaville, including Dolisie, Nkayi and Mouyondzi. He has declared war on the government of President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso, who is currently in Moscow for the Russia-Africa summit, according to Taarifa.
Mbouity, a former Socialist Party candidate in the March 2026 presidential election, accuses the authorities of organising his abduction last Sunday and an assassination attempt that he says he survived. His party claims that armed, masked men took him away in an unregistered vehicle.
The Socialist Party spokesperson, Martial Mbourangon Pa’nucci, announced that mobilisation would continue with the participation of socialists, the Congolese population and the diaspora. Opposition parties condemned the abduction on Thursday and called for Mbouity’s immediate release.
Clément Mierassa, president of the Congolese Social Democratic Party, described the abduction as a “cowardly act” and denounced an escalation of “terror” and intimidation. The government of Denis Sassou-N’Guesso has not responded to the general’s statement. The threat comes as the Congolese president attends the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, where he was received by Vladimir Putin.
