Putin accuses EU and Nato of prolonging Ukraine war

Vladimir Putin accused the European Union and Nato of prolonging the war in Ukraine during a telephone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The three leaders agreed to maintain direct contacts, according to the Kremlin, which reported on the 27 October 2026 call.

Vladimir Putin accused the European Union and Nato of prolonging the fighting in Ukraine through their “confrontational policy” during a telephone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Tuesday, according to a Kremlin statement reported by L’Essentiel.

The Russian president said that a “just and lasting peace” would only be possible if Russia’s interests were fully taken into account. The three leaders agreed to maintain direct telephone contacts, according to the Kremlin.

The accusation follows a conversation between Vladimir Putin and the Finnish and Norwegian leaders, who had urged him to end the war in Ukraine. The discussion follows recent contacts between ECOWAS and political actors in Guinea-Bissau.
