The Religious Foundation for Health launches the Zero VBG music competition to encourage Cape Verdean secondary school students to create songs promoting the prevention of gender-based violence. Applications are open until 15 November and the final is scheduled for 28 November in Praia, according to coordinator Victoria Seoane.
The “Zero VBG” music competition is accepting applications from Cape Verdean high school students until 15 November and will hold its final on 28 November in Praia to raise awareness among students about preventing gender-based violence (GBV). The initiative is led by the Religious Foundation for Health (FRS), with funding from Spanish Cooperation, Inforpress reports.
FRS coordinator Victoria Seoane explained that the competition extends awareness-raising activities carried out since 2023, particularly through free music festivals in Kebra Canela. Students will be able to write their own songs, create their rhythms using artificial intelligence tools or use instrumentals available on YouTube, according to Inforpress.
Artists will meet the finalists on 25 November to share their experience and support them in their artistic work. The first prize includes a laptop, a studio recording session and the production of a music video; the second consists of a phone and the third of a tablet, while a prize will be awarded for the best song. The pilot competition is being organised in Praia with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Family and other institutions, with the possibility of expanding it in future editions, according to Victoria Seoane.
