Eighteen female gymnasts aged 12 and over are due to compete in the 26th national rhythmic gymnastics championship in Praia, Cape Verde. The competition is scheduled for 24 October and will bring together representatives from Santiago Sud, Santiago Nord and São Vicente, according to the Cape Verde Gymnastics Federation.

Eighteen gymnasts aged at least 12 will compete in the 26th Cape Verde National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship on 24 October in Praia, according to the Cape Verde Gymnastics Federation (FCG). The athletes represent the regional associations of Santiago Sul, Santiago Norte and São Vicente. They will compete in the all-around, according to the International Gymnastics Federation’s Code of Points for the 2025-2028 cycle.

Having qualified through their regional championships, the participants will be assessed by a jury appointed to represent the participating associations. The competition will begin at 4pm at the Vavá Duarte Sports Pavilion in the Chã d’Areia district. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 8pm.

The national champions will receive trophies; the top three in each category will be awarded medals and diplomas. All participants will receive a certificate. The FCG says the event will also assess the gymnasts’ technical progress and identify athletes who could join the national team for international competitions.

The federation’s president, Wânia Monteiro, described the championship as an event bringing together the work carried out during the season in clubs on different islands. The event will be open to the public, with tickets costing 100 escudos for children and 300 escudos for adults.
