Minibus fares in the Maputo metropolitan area will increase by five meticais from 7 November 2026, according to the Mozambican Road Transport Federation. The rise affects an area where the minimum fare is currently 15 meticais and follows negotiations between operators and the Mozambican government, Lusa reports.

Minibus fares for semi-collective transport in the Maputo metropolitan area will rise by five meticais from 7 November 2026. The Mozambican government and transport operators reached an agreement after several rounds of negotiations, the Mozambican Road Transport Federation (FEMATRO) announced, according to Lusa.

The current minimum fare in Greater Maputo is 15 meticais per journey. Passenger transport associations are to announce the new prices for each route, while FEMATRO was due to present details of the adjustment on Friday, a source at the federation told Lusa.

The increase follows a 45.5% rise in the price of diesel and a 12.1% rise in the price of petrol on 7 May. The government then introduced temporary assistance for transport operators, paid from June to August, to prevent fuel costs being passed on immediately to passengers. Its spokesperson, Inocêncio Impissa, recently said the subsidies could not be maintained indefinitely and that any fare changes had to be assessed by the relevant authorities, Lusa reports.
