Cameroonian police have withdrawn from the joint inquiry commission established after the murder of journalist Martinez Zogo, leaving the gendarmerie to continue the investigation alone until the trial before the Yaoundé Military Tribunal, reports Actu Cameroun. The commission was established on the instructions of President Paul Biya after Martinez Zogo’s body was discovered in January 2023.
The police withdrawal comes as the trial continues to examine the circumstances of the journalist’s death. Actu Cameroun also notes the murder, on 2 February 2023, of Orthodox priest and journalist Jean-Jacques Ola Bebey, who had challenged the initial accounts of the case and said before his death that he was being threatened.
The Martinez Zogo case resumed before the Yaoundé Military Tribunal on 5 October 2026. The trial subsequently included the hearing of evidence concerning, among other things, 48 tax documents sent to Danwe, mentioned on 27 October.
