Manchester United is considering Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte to replace manager Michael Carrick, whose position is under threat after several poor results. According to ESPN, the club, 16th in the Premier League after eight winless matches, suffered a 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth on 25 October.
Manchester United is considering Eddie Howe, former Newcastle manager, Julian Nagelsmann, former Germany head coach, and Antonio Conte, former Napoli manager, as potential replacements for Michael Carrick, according to sources cited by ESPN and reported by Vanguard. The English manager’s future is uncertain after the 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on 25 October.
The defeat came five days after a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League. Manchester United is now winless in eight matches in all competitions and sits 16th in the Premier League, one point clear of the relegation zone. Conte would be willing to discuss the role if the club contacted him, ESPN reports.
After the match against Bournemouth, Carrick said he did not know what decision the club would take. He said he would continue to act in Manchester United’s best interests. The club are due to face Chelsea on Saturday, followed by Aston Villa and Liverpool.
The club had already begun considering Howe and Nagelsmann to succeed Carrick, according to our 26 October article on Manchester United’s options.
