Unicef and Gavi will set the price of a dose of malaria vaccine at €5.50, a reduction of about 40%. The agreement could save $50 million between 2027 and 2029 and protect one million more children, according to the two organisations.

Unicef and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will set the price of a dose of malaria vaccine at €5.50 from 2027, a reduction of about 40%, Telanon reports. The new agreement is expected to save $50 million between 2027 and 2029.

According to Unicef, the reduction could allow up to one million more children to be vaccinated with the full four-dose schedule. The new price is due to take effect at the start of 2027 and follows the transfer of production to a manufacturer based in a developing country.

Unicef Supply Division Director Leila Pakkala says the agreement will widen access to vaccines and support the development of vaccines of the next generation. In 2025, malaria caused 282 million cases and 610,000 deaths worldwide; 95% of infections and deaths were recorded in Africa, according to figures cited by Unicef. Children under five accounted for about 74% of the deaths.
