The Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority has withdrawn its approval of WASCO’s new water connection charges, which were due to take effect on 1 November 2026. The authority says the regulatory procedure was incomplete; previously approved charges therefore remain in force, according to its public notice.

Lesotho’s energy and water regulator has withdrawn its approval of WASCO, the national water company’s, new water connection charges. According to a public notice from LEWA, the approval was granted without all regulatory and procedural requirements being met; the charges therefore cannot take effect on 1 November 2026.

The cancelled charges included a basic fee of 3,335.60 maloti and 10.35 maloti for each additional metre of pipe. The existing charges remain in force. LEWA has asked customers to disregard communications, including a WASCO leaflet, presenting the new amounts as having been approved by the regulator.

The withdrawal cancels the charges announced on 7 October for water connections in Lesotho.
