Heavy rainfall regularly disrupts public transport and some roads in Dakar, particularly when the Autoroute de l’Avenir is flooded. These interruptions highlight the vulnerability of Senegalese infrastructure to extreme rainfall and the need to improve drainage, reports SeneNews.

Heavy rainfall causes flooding and transport disruptions in Dakar, reports SeneNews. The Autoroute de l’Avenir is regularly submerged near Keur Massar, while Dakar Dem Dikk bus routes, the SunuBRT network and the Regional Express Train (TER) experience suspensions or disruptions.

These interruptions cause delays and losses for professional and commercial activities. Run-off water also damages exposed equipment, which can increase maintenance costs, according to SeneNews.

The outlet highlights the need to strengthen drainage and rainwater management to better adapt transport infrastructure to extreme weather events. ANACIM had forecast out-of-season rain in Senegal on 29 October 2026.
