Togolese opposition calls for CEET audit over power cuts

Togolese opposition groups accuse the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo and the state of mismanagement over power cuts, and are calling for independent audits. They are calling for a “Patriotic Warning Day” on 20 November 2026, according to their joint statement.
Several Togolese opposition groups, including Touche Pas à Ma Constitution, are calling for independent audits of the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET) and public management of the electricity sector. They denounce poor governance as the cause of the power cuts and are calling for the publication of data on debt, investment and the use of resources, according to a joint statement reported by Icilomé.
The signatories say the electricity disruptions are penalising households, small businesses, industries and hospitals. They question explanations linked to regional gas supplies, external faults and maintenance operations, and cite warnings from the IMF, the World Bank and the Electricity Sector Regulatory Authority. They are calling for any potential offences to result in impartial prosecutions.
The position comes after the announcement, on 5 October, of a Togolese opposition mobilisation on 20 November 2026. It also follows the cuts linked to gas pipeline maintenance, announced on 21 October and scheduled to last until 27 October.
