Samba Ndiaye, an official at the Agency for the Development and Promotion of Industrial Sites (Aprosi), has been taken into custody in Senegal on suspicion of forgery and use of forged documents and administrative fraud. He is accused of using ChatGPT to create fake medical certificates and work exemptions, according to L’Observateur, cited by Seneweb.

Samba Ndiaye, a senior official at Senegal’s Agency for the Development and Promotion of Industrial Sites (Aprosi), has been arrested and placed in police custody by the Colobane Research Section on suspicion of forgery and use of forged documents and administrative fraud, Seneweb reports, citing the newspaper L’Observateur.

He is accused of using ChatGPT to produce fake medical certificates and work exemptions to justify prolonged absences, including a family stay in Paris. He is in charge of the second phase of the Diamniadio industrial platform and is the nephew of former president Macky Sall.

After discovering the documents, Aprosi contacted the gendarmerie, citing financial and administrative harm. A year earlier, Samba Ndiaye had filed a complaint with the Special Cybercrime Division to defend his uncle’s honour.

The case comes as President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced on 29 October that he wanted to open public procurement to Senegalese artisans, in a separate initiative from the investigation into the Aprosi official.
