About 700 families in Tororo Municipality, eastern Uganda, have lost their homes after heavy rain and hailstorms blew off roofs, damaged houses and destroyed crops over the past week, according to Tororo District Chairperson John Okea, quoted by The Independent.
The villages of Bison A, Bison B, Agururu, Rubongi and Water Village are among the affected areas. Some families are being hosted by relatives, while others remain homeless and are seeking emergency assistance from the government. The district is compiling damage assessments to submit to the Office of the Prime Minister, according to John Okea.
The storm also injured people and destroyed household property. Johnson Osinde, a resident whose roof was blown off, was injured when a wall collapsed. The damage follows rain and winds that destroyed houses and crops in Tororo, reported on 3 November.
