Four Cape Verdean boxers will compete in the finals of the African Boxing Championships in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on 30 and 31 October, reports Inforpress. National coach Bernardino Moniz hopes his athletes will win several titles, without guaranteeing that all four will be victorious.

David de Pina will face Colongo Glori on Friday 30 October for the 54 kg title. Lenick Fernandes (51 kg), Nancy Moreira (70 kg) and Admilson Carvalho, known as Kevinho (63 kg), are also due to fight for gold: two finals are scheduled for Friday and two more for Saturday, the closing day of the championships.

Bernardino Moniz said that food was a challenge for the boxers, whose nutritional needs were not being met adequately. He added that other African delegations were facing the same problem. The coach also praised messages of support sent to the athletes by Cape Verdeans in the archipelago and the diaspora.
