Fanamc says Tsimdo campaign against Ethiopia failed

A commentary published by Fanamc says the Tsimdo campaign, which it describes as backed by Cairo and Asmara, failed to bring about Ethiopia’s rapid collapse. It argues that the Ethiopian army and national cohesion thwarted the objectives attributed to those behind the campaign.
The Tsimdo campaign against Ethiopia failed to trigger the country’s rapid collapse, Fanamc says, describing the operation as a strategy backed by Cairo and Asmara. The media outlet says its promoters aimed to bring about a political shift within two weeks, but underestimated the resistance of the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF).
Fanamc describes the hostile coalition as a convergence of interests among actors pursuing different goals but united by a desire to exploit Ethiopia’s political and security challenges. According to the outlet, coordinating internal and external threats did not produce the expected disorganisation, and the campaign’s ambitions quickly dissipated.
ENDF Chief of Staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula referred to the confrontation in a message published on 25 October for the 119th Defence Forces Day, Fanamc reports. The outlet presents his statement as an acknowledgement of the failure of forces seeking to destabilise Ethiopia through armed struggle and hostile coordination.
The statement follows Ethiopia’s accusation that Eritrea had made a 60-kilometre incursion on 9 October. It also follows reports of rallies supporting the Ethiopian army in Amhara on 17 October.
