Egyptian authorities strongly condemned Israeli settlers entering the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli forces. Cairo denounced an infringement on the Muslim holy site, the Egyptian daily Al-Youm Al-Sabea reported.

Egypt condemned the entry of Israeli settlers into the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli forces. Cairo denounced a violation of the sanctity of religious sites, according to a statement by the Egyptian authorities.

Egypt warned that repeated incursions could fuel tensions and undermine efforts to restore calm. It called for respect for Al-Aqsa’s historical and legal status quo, under which the site is reserved for Muslim worship, and rejected any attempt to divide it temporally or spatially, as well as any infringement on Hashemite custodianship of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. Cairo also called on the international community to oppose these violations and unilateral measures.
