A suspected drone attack on a power plant has cut electricity to Damazin and Roseires in Sudan’s Blue Nile region and disrupted water supplies. Residents report severe shortages, while the price of a container reaches 3,000 Sudanese pounds, Radio Tamazuj reports.
A drone attack on a power-generation plant cut electricity supplies to the cities of Damazin and Roseires in Sudan’s Blue Nile state on Tuesday evening, Radio Tamazuj reports. The outages halted the operation of pumping stations and disrupted drinking-water supplies.
In Damazin, the price of a water container reached 3,000 Sudanese pounds and that of a barrel 17,000 pounds, according to residents quoted by Radio Tamazuj. Families say they lack water for drinking, cooking and washing, while neighbourhoods dependent on pumping stations have been particularly affected.
The outage is increasing health and environmental risks in a region where access to essential services is already deteriorating. Residents are calling on the authorities to quickly repair the damaged facilities.
