The DR Congo-US steering committee is calling for technical, financial, institutional, legal and regulatory work on the Grand Inga project to be accelerated. The parties also want to mobilise public and private funding and involve multilateral banks, according to the DR Congo's Ministry of National Economy.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo and the United States must accelerate the technical, financial, institutional, legal and regulatory work required to prepare the Grand Inga hydroelectric project. The two parties also called for public and private funding to be mobilised and for discussions with development finance institutions and multilateral banks to continue, according to a statement from the DR Congo's Ministry of National Economy.

The Grand Inga project could support electricity generation, industrialisation, mineral processing, agro-industry and regional energy integration, according to the parties meeting in Paris on 5 November 2026. They also stressed environmental and social safeguards, the participation of local communities, skills development and the creation of centres of excellence linked to the project.

The meeting of the joint DR Congo-US Steering Committee follows the inaugural meeting of the Grand Inga Project Coordination and Governance Committee, held on 26 October. It comes after the establishment of this governance body for the Grand Inga dam, announced on the same day as part of the partnership between Kinshasa and Washington.
