Authorities in South Sudan’s Morobo County handed Ngota Musa over to authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday 30 October. The Congolese national had been arrested after three houses were burned and property looted in a border village, according to Eye Radio and county authorities.
Residents had accused him of being involved in the attack before handing him over to the police. A preliminary assessment subsequently concluded that he was unfit to stand trial or be held criminally responsible, local authorities said. They sought his relatives in order to arrange his return to the DRC so that he could receive care.
The county’s acting commissioner, Moro Isaac Johnson, supervised the handover. Local officials from Morobo and the DRC attended the ceremony; Congolese leaders praised cooperation between the two communities.
